Description: 

The New Horizon Special School is recruiting a Classroom Teacher to support our Special Needs classrooms. Our students live with conditions such as Autism, Down’s Syndrome, Intellectual Disability, and Cerebral Palsy, and our curriculums are centered around Individual Education Plans (IEPs) and Therapies that meet each student’s profile.

Requirements: 

Prospective applicants must have at a minimum, a valid teaching license and at least 1-2 years of experience teaching in the required curriculum. Required qualifications are a Bachelor’s degree in Education. Preferred qualifications are Master’s or Ph.d in a Special Education area or discipline.

Qualifications: ​​

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Education

  • Ideally the candidate has a Master’s or Ph.D. in a Special Education discipline 

  • Applicant must have documented experience working with special needs students â€‹â€‹â€‹

Description: 

​The New Horizon Special School is recruiting Support Teachers for our Special Needs classrooms. Our students live with conditions such as Autism, Down’s Syndrome, Intellectual Disability, and Cerebral Palsy, and our curriculums are centered around Individual Education Plans (IEPs) and Therapies that meet each student’s profile.​

Responsibilities:

  • Support Teacher will assist the class teacher to teach the students,  and do any other tasks under the guidance of the class teacher.

  • Vocational Teacher will work with our students in a crafting workshop. 

  • Please note that all Support Teachers are expected to take part in the full range of school activities such as sports, drama and school celebrations.

  • Workshop Instructors are in charge of educating a classroom of special needs students in a crafting discipline, such as sewing, batik tye-and-dye, doormat weaving, basketry, and textiles.

Requirements: 

Prospective applicants must have at a minimum, certification from the West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) and/or the National Vocational Training Institute [NVTI]. Preferred candidates will have documented experience working with special needs students.

Qualifications: ​​

  • WASSCE OR NVTI

  • For Support Teachers, experience in teaching or taking care of a special needs child is a plus.

  • For Vocational Teachers, experience in areas such as beading, basketry, batik or tye dye is a plus.

  • Inventory Tracking

  • Custodial Responsibilities

General Description: This employee is responsible for maintaining and securing the school premises and site, ensuring a safe, clean, and hygienic environment. The overall purpose is to ensure the efficient and effective day-to-day running, presentation, and management of the school site, ensuring a warm, clean, safe, and secure environment for all authorized users of the site and visitors.

​

Responsibilities: 

Security

  • Checking security every morning on arrival at the premises

  • Oversee the school premises' internal security measures, including locking all room windows, doors and gates.

  • Be responsible for the regular checking and operation of systems.

 

Handyman Duties

  • Conduct routine checks of school facilities

  • Carry out minor repairs to property, fixtures, fittings and equipment

  • Perform general maintenance

  • Report and log any repairs or maintenance work, which is beyond your competence and responsibility

  • Report and log any defects in the building, furniture, fittings and equipment

  • Initiate repair requests as needed

  • Engage in general porterage duties and moving of furniture

  • Assist teaching staff with simple tasks as requested


Custodial Monitor

  • Oversee cleanliness of all facilities in the school

  • Monitor requisition of cleaning supplies

  • Monitor requisitions of bathroom and kitchen supplies

  • Perform or request routine maintenance on gardening and cleaning equipment

  • Initiate repair requests to address maintenance needs.

  • Oversee visiting service men i.e. plumbers, electricians, painters, tilers, etc.
