"Nyame Biribi Wo Soro"

“God, there is something in the heavens.”

The concept and design of the New Horizon Special School logo came from our founder, Mrs. Salome Francois of blessed memory. It emerged from a significant amount of time in meditation and contemplation. She longed for a safe and inclusive Ghana, one that created space for our special needs community in all parts of life. And she believed the New Horizon Special School could point our country in the right direction. So the logo should be a symbol of optimism and renewal for our community - one that promised a new day, that erased the years of exclusion, and that  heralded a brighter future.

Ultimately Salome Francois married two concepts together. The first was the name.  A ‘New Horizon’ represents the dawn of new beginnings, the promise of a brighter future, and the limitless possibilities that lie ahead. The second was an Adinkra symbol. Nyame Biribi Wo Soro is a Akan adinkra symbol of hope that translates directly to "God is in the heavens." It is a constant reminder that God's dwelling place is in the heavens, where He can hear our prayers.

Mrs. Salome Francois

Founded in 1972, the New Horizon Special. School is a private, purpose-built non-profit special needs day institution. The school is located in the Osu/Cantoments area of Accra. We provide education, vocational training, and employment opportunities to children and adults with Special Needs. Our students live with conditions such as Autism, Down’s Syndrome, Intellectual Disability, and Cerebral Palsy. To meet their needs, our programs target the intellectual, creative,  physical, social, behavioral, and emotional needs of every student.

We center our curriculum around Individual Education Plans (IEPs) and select therapies so as to develop each student’s potential to the full. Our founder, Mrs. Salome Francois believed that every special child deserved to be celebrated, and given access to education, health, creativity, happiness. She would often say, ‘No Child Should Be Left Behind’. As a result of her Vision and Leadership we have supported and positively impacted more than 3,000 individuals, using structured learning programs, life skills development, and vocational training.
